Day 45: Sunglasses required on holiday

Here in the sunny Dordogne sunglasses are rather an necessary accessory; British eyes are unused to sunlight of this intensity. So I've been wearing my sunnies pretty much full-time since we arrived and I doubt that I'll be removing them until we return. Rather usefully they also make quite a nice subject with their curves and reflections - so just now I removed them for a quick sketch:

In the sunlight they really pick up some highlights and there's lots of contrast here with the very darkest areas being almost black. I've tried to capture this wide tonal range with some very soft pencil tones:

To a degree I quite like certain elements in this picture; the bridge has some depth and the rest of the frame is portrayed with reasonable accuracy. I guess that the lenses are the most disappointing feature though as the curve of them has been flattened out and there's no translucency at all (although I'm not sure how I would have captured this anyway). Perhaps I'll stick to just wearing them in future...
